Overview

This is a trip of a lifetime tour with spectacular scenery, boasting breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary natural wonders, viewing majestic animals in the wild and experiencing an amazing cultural experience.

The tour is a boutique riding holiday suited to experienced riders and non-riders and partners.  The tour is hosted by Liz Wylie an experience horse person and includes local guides leading the trip.  Most meals and drinks are included as well as horse riding and all sightseeing mentioned in the itinerary.

The highlights include horse riding safaris in the Waterberg region of South Africa and Botswana where you will view wild life on horse back as well as on safari.

Chobe National Park is another highlight with safari cruises on the river to see wild life and enjoying a sundowner while viewing magnificent sunsets

Staying in the Wine lands with a horse ride through the vineyards.  During your stay in Capetown spend some time at Kirstenbosch Gardens against the backdrop of Table Mountain with a visit to the summit to see amazing views.

Another highlight is a sightseeing tour to Cape Peninsula which includes the world heritage site Cape of Good Hope nature reserve, Simons Bay and the Penguins at Boulder Beach.

Saving the best for last is a visit to the Iconic Victoria Falls with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.  An extension to Hwange National park is also possible.

This tour is a small group tour and is fully hosted from Australia with local guides though out the tour.  Maximum 12 people. Non-riders are most welcome as there is plenty of activities available for the non-riders.

Please meet at the airport for your international flight to Johannesburg via Perth. You will clear customs in Perth.

Johannesburg – Horizon Horseback Signature Safari Lodge, Waterberg Area

Enjoy an early breakfast and then transfer to Horizon Signature Safari lodge (approx. 2.5hrs) for lunch.  This afternoon enjoy an introductory ride in the game reserve, with sundowners served at one of our picturesque hippo dams. Return to camp for dinner. Situated amidst the towering Waterberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province, the Waterberg Biospher. Renowned for its rugged beauty, the landscape is characterised by low-lying mountain ranges and escarpments, as well as a network of streams, rivers and lakes. Our Signature Safari is suited to all ages and levels of riding ability so children and complete novices are welcome too. There is no dangerous game but plenty of plains game including giraffe, zebra, hippo, crocodile, hyena, leopard, and many types of antelope.  Rides are 100% tailormade and clients can choose from many riding activities such as Polocrosse, Cattle Mustering, Jumping, and swimming with your horse. (fully inclusive including all meals, drinks (local brands), transfers and horse back riding).

Horizon Horseback Signature Safari Lodge, Waterberg Area

After breakfast head into the game reserve whilst enjoying the excellent goings on, on the vast network of sandy tracks. After lunch, go on a shopping trip to the local town of Vaalwater for some retail therapy bush style. This afternoon enjoy an introduction to polocrosse, an amalgam of polo and lacrosse, an invigorating sport that will soon have you addicted. Return to camp for dinner. (fully inclusive including all meals, drinks (Local Brands), transfers and horse back riding).

Horizon Horseback Signature Safari Lodge, Waterberg Area

Enjoy a full morning of riding in the game reserve with possible encounters with giraffe, eland, wildebeest, waterbuck, impala, hartebeest or zebra. Lunch is taken en-route at one of the neighbouring dams, where a cooling swim on the horses can be enjoyed. Return to the camp in the late afternoon for sundowner drinks and another starlight dinner. (fully inclusive including all meals, drinks (Local Brands), transfers and horse back riding).

Capetown

This morning enjoy a visit to Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain, considered as one of the 7 wonders of the world before heading off to a city tour. After this historic and cultural experience of Cape Town, head back to the Portswood Hotel to unwind. Rest of the day at leisure. (Includes bed and Breakfast, return Table Mountain tickets and half day city tour).

Capetown – Stellenbosch

This morning after breakfast transfer to the wine land region and check in to Devon Valley Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the town.  Stellenbosch is a picturesque university town surrounded by mountains and vineyards. A walking tour of the town centre allows visitors to take in its beautifully preserved Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture, as well as the many enticing art galleries, craft shops, clothing boutiques and gift stores, while foodies may prefer indulging in mouth-watering cuisine and fine wines at one of the chic restaurants or buzzing bistros. Stellenbosch is also the ideal base from which to explore the renowned local wine route, boasting a high proportion of the country’s leading wine estates. Overnight: Devon Valley Hotel (Includes bed and breakfast and transfers).

Stellenbosch – Capetown – Victoria Falls

After breakfast, transfer to Cape Town International Airport and check in for your flight to Victoria Falls. Upon arrival clear customs and purchase your visa USD30 – 45pp not included.  Transfer to Gorges Lodge and check in. Tonight, you will witness the evening traditional dancing show.  Resting on the southern banks of the Zambezi River. Popular activities include scenic flights over the falls in helicopters or micro lights, bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge, white-water rafting (seasonal). Overnight: Gorges and Little Gorges. Gorges is famous for its spectacular views, and you will be constantly drawn to the stunning vistas provided by the Batoka Gorge and the rushing waters of the Zambezi River below. (Includes full board, drinks and activities, accommodation and park entry). Excluded: Zimbabwe visa USD30-45 pp payable locally.

Chobe, Botswana

Enjoy an early morning game drive through Chobe National Park, home to Africa’s largest elephant population.  Return for breakfast and an optional culture tour.  Lunch will be served at your lodge. Enjoy the afternoon by the pool before another sunset cruise this evening. Return for dinner.  (Includes fully inclusive meals and drinks, National Park fees,  game drive and sunset cruise).

Johannesburg

On arrival at OR Tambo International Airport meet your guide and transfer to your hotel for check in. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and enjoy some of the hotels facilities as you recover from your long flight.  Johannesburg is one of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa.  There are excellent museums, art galleries and organised tours of historical and political interest. The shopping is Southern Africa’s best and the many restaurants cater for all tastes. The nearby township of Soweto is Johannesburg’s most popular tourist attraction.

Horizon Horseback Signature Safari Lodge, Waterberg Area

Today ride to the original farm homestead and main African village, view the quaint hand decorated houses, call in at the historic Baber family homestead for tea, and a visit the farm crèche for some delightful entertainment. Ride back to the lodge for a cooling swim in the lake with your horse before lunch. Later, during the heat of the day, relax by the pool or take a siesta. In the afternoon, ride out into the game area to encounter game on horseback and learn the signs of the wild and medicinal values of the native bushes and trees.  NOTE: All activities are tailored to the clients wishes and can / could be changed whilst on safari.  (fully inclusive including all meals, drinks (local brands), transfers and horse back riding).

We begin the day with another ride and this afternoon we set off for Camp Davidson, a wonderful tented camp that overlooks the Melk valley. This is camping with a difference, beds with duvets and cotton sheets, bathrooms with flushing toilets and tables laid with crisp white linen. That evening, enjoy sundowners on our camp deck and dinner under the stars with the sound of jackal, zebra, hippo and the neighbouring lions serenading your evening. (fully inclusive including all meals, drinks (Local Brands), transfers and Horse back riding).

Waterberg – Capetown

Today transfer to Johannesburg to fly to Capetown.
upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Check in to the Portswood hotel. Enjoy an evening at leisure.  Some cities boast rich culture, vibrant nightlife, a cosmopolitan atmosphere and extraordinary architecture, while others boast breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary natural wonders. Cape Town is lucky enough to be blessed with all of these attractions and so much more. With its bustling harbour, world-class beaches, top-notch vineyards, and its mountainous surroundings brimming with diverse flora and fauna, Cape Town consistently captivates the hearts of all who visit. Capetown

Enjoy a full day peninsula tour starting with Hout Bay Harbour. The beach stretches to Chapmans Peak, the next stop on the list. Begin a scenic drive from Hout Bay along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Next is the world heritage site Cape of Good Hope nature reserve which offers stunning views and a 3 minute flying dutchman funicular, to the old lighthouse. Move on to Boulders beach, the home of over 2 thousand land based African penguins. End the day at Kirstenbosch Gardens against the backdrop of Table Mountain. Return to hotel.

Stellenbosch 

Today enjoy a full day horse riding wine tour. Whether you are an experienced rider wanting a fast and exhilarating canter down open farm tracks and mountain passes, or just a novice wanting a relaxing meander on a steady horse to get a different perspective of the magnificent scenery, you will have a great experience riding through spectacular vineyards. We take care in pairing the most suitable horse to the rider’s skill level. To ensure you have a comfortable ride guaranteed to leave you invigorated.  For non-riders we can replace the Horse Wine Safari with a tram that travels through the beautiful vineyards including a few stops for wine tasting. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

After breakfast enjoy a guided tour of Victoria Falls, later venture to the Craft Village for a spot of curio shopping. This evening enjoy a Zambezi Sunset cruise with the opportunity to see a variety of game including hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and many different bird species. The trip includes finger snacks, beer, wine, local spirits and soft drinks. (Includes full board, accommodation and activities as per itinerary)

Victoria Falls – Chobe, Botswana

Today transfer to Chobe Bakwena Lodge and check in to your eco-luxury Retreat. Enjoy lunch and some time at leisure before your sunset cruise on the Chobe River. Dinner afterwards at the Lodge.  The Chobe River forms the northern boundary of the Chobe National Park, renowned for its diverse and abundant game viewing opportortunties of wildlife including elephant and hippo populations, A visit to this area guarantees close encounters with an array of African wildlife. Visitors can look forward to some exciting activities such as: driving along the game-dotted river banks in a 4WD; cruising along the river in a motorboat, spotting rare birdlife and for a unique, luxury safari experience, hire a houseboat. Overnight: Chobe Bakwena Lodge.  Activities are naturally focused on the land and water-based safaris, all based in-house, a host of other activities are also on offer from fishing trips to guided bicycle tours or a sundowner cruise to the meeting place of four countries, (the only one in the world).  Chobe, Bakwena Lodge, Botswana

Today after breakfast we have 2 choices, you will either transfer to Kasane Airport and check in for your flight back to Australia via Johannesburg or if you have booked the optional extension to Hwange, you will transfer to your next lodge, a luxury tented camp. Upon arrival at your camp you will enjoy lunch before heading out on an open vehicle safari, hopefully you may spot wild dogs, which often frequent the area. Return for dinner and overnight.
