10 Days / Start: Tuesday 2 September 2025 &
Finish: Thursday 11 September 2025

Burghley Horse Trials is one of seven 5-Star eventing competitions in the world and many Australian and New Zealand riders have won this prestigious event previously.

The tour meets in London and then travels north with a stop at the pretty and historical University town of Cambridge with a punt on the River Cam. Continuing on to Peterborough where the group will be based over the next five days for Burghley Horse Trials.

On the way back to London you will visit Windsor Castle where you may like to visit St George’s Chapel, Queen Elizabeth’s place of rest.  On the tour, you will see the gorgeous English countryside with cute stone cottages, and in London all the pomp and pageantry with so much more.

The Snaffle Travel group tour will finish in London with free time to explore this wonderful city and for those that love the theatre, you may like a night out in the West End.  You will also enjoy a visit to Hampton Court to learn about Henry VIII, his wives, and the children in the world of the Tudor Court.

Overview

Burghley Horse Trials is one of the toughest and most exciting equestrian events in the world. Horses and riders complete the competition with a different discipline or phase each day. Horses and riders must complete a dressage test demonstrating obedience, discipline, accuracy, and elegance. They need to be fit and athletic to complete a four-mile Cross Country ride jumping several solid man-made and natural obstacles within a set time. Finally, they must complete a course of show jumps designed to test their agility and accuracy at speed.

Australian riders Christopher Burton, Lucinda Fredericks and Andrew Hoy have all won this event. The first Australasian rider to win this prestigious event was Andrew Hoy on Davey in 1979 and then more recently on Moonfleet in 2004.  The most recent New Zealand rider was Tim Price in 2018 and Mark Todd has won it five times.  Andrew Nicholson on the same horse Avebury has won it three times and two other times on other horses. Blythe Tait has also won twice and Caroline Powell just once so far.  Let’s hope an Australian or New Zealand rider will win this year.
