Overview

On this horseback riding holiday you will find a charming French Chateau peacefully awaiting you in the secluded countryside of Auvergne. Just a scenic three hours outside of Paris with the nearby lush green forests of Tronçais. The stunning mansion with history dating back to 1836 when it was built by Count Eugène de la Roche amidst the 100 acres of enviable parkland and adjacent to the ancient ruins of the original castle, Château du Mont.

Today, after fulfilling lifestyles elsewhere, Monsieur and Madame Tissier have created an idyllic perfection for international guests and offer the best in sublime rural tranquility and curious discovery. They welcome you to enjoy the beautifully restored 19th century Chateau, and stay as their guest in one of the tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable 19 guestrooms equipped with modern bathroom facilities and antique furnishing, with glorious views of the noble countryside that you will soon explore by horseback, where history and stunning landscapes are plentiful.

A delightful country experience, riding holidays at the chateau are highlighted by gourmet fine dining, generous hospitality and the recently renovated and modernized 30 horse equestrian centre. When not in the saddle, visitors can also enjoy fishing and canoeing on the pristine lake, mountain biking the many lush nature paths of the tranquil property or rest and play in the quiet ambiance of the library and billiards room in an elegant atmosphere of relaxation and culture.

Riding Level and Horses

Riders need not be experienced and this suits all riders and from novice to intermediate riders and children from 6 years of age are welcome to ride as well.  The equestrian centre is well known for breeding and training high quality thoroughbreds race horses and there are many excellent school and trail horses for the riding centre clients. Rider weight limit: 200 lbs.  /  90 kilos.

The horses are Thoroughbreds and French Selle horses. They are well-behaved and suitable for all types of rider.

Riding groups are kept small to a maximum of 6 riders.  The riders explore the beautiful countryside surrounding the estate or you can opt for a riding instruction in the arena in the disciplines of dressage, cross country or show jumping.  Explore the endless diverse landscapes with hilly landscapes.  The trainers speak limited English, so they are supported by an English lady (a rider as well), who provides the translation very well.

There is a covered (20 m x 40 m) arena, Two outdoor arenas (30 m x 60 m & 20 m x 40 m), lunging ring, 23 stalls, gallop track (800 m), with numerous trails outside the property.  Instruction is Tuesday to Sunday morning

Helmets are strongly recommended and a packing list will be provided when you book the ride.

Itinerary

A delightful country escape including riding holidays at the Chateau, highlighted with gourmet fine dining, generous hospitality and the recently modernised 30 horse equestrian centre.  When not in the saddle guests can also enjoy fishing and canoeing on the pristine Lake, mountain biking the many lush nature paths of the tranquil property or rest and play in the quiet ambiance of the library and billiards room in an elegant atmosphere of relaxation and culture.  There is also a pool to cool down in the summer months.  The ride is a stationary ride so you will stay in the same accommodation every night.  There is plenty of quaint towns and villages nearby to explore. The highlight is the delicious french food and wine.

Day 1: (D)
Arrival Day.  It is best to arrive by private car but you can take a train from Paris (about 2 hours South of Paris by train).  Transfers can be arranged from the  Gare de Moulins Sur Allier train station (30 minutes by taxi) from the trains station. The closest airport is Clermont-Ferrand Airport.  On arrival this afternoon explore the grounds and relax with a drink before dinner. No riding today. Gourmet five course dinner included this evening.

Day 2: (B,L,D)
After breakfast, choose to enjoy a riding lesson or trail ride.  Riding approx 2 hours.  All meals included.

Day 3: (B,L,D)
After breakfast, choose to enjoy a riding lesson or trail ride.  Riding approx 2 hours.  All meals included.

Day 4: (B,L,D)
After breakfast you have a free day to explore the area.  You may like to go for a walk or mountain bike ride in the area or explore the local towns. All meals included. Gourmet dinner included this evening.

Day 5: (B,L,D)
After breakfast, choose to enjoy a riding lesson or trail ride.  Riding approx 2 hours.  All meals included.

Day 6: (B,L)

After breakfast, choose to do a riding lesson or trail ride before your departure.  Riding : Approx 1 hour.  Enjoy a leisurely lunch before your departure.  transfers can be arranged to the train station or local airport.

Accommodation and Food

You will stay at the same accommodation each night. Price is based around sharing a double or twin room, though single rooms are available for a supplement.

The handsome Chateau dates back to 1836 and has glorious views over its 100 acre estate.  Its hilltop views of the estates 100 acres including the Lake, forests and fields.  From the Southern exposure, the terrace provides views of the estate and farmlands, church towers and the traditional borage.

Large flower filled terracotta pots along the terrace enhance the area, making it a perfect place for enjoying a refreshing drink or meal.

There are common areas if you need to unwind including, a lounge, billiard room if you feel in the mood.  A swimming pool is open from June to September.  Wi-fi is available at the property.

Room options: The Chateau offers 5 room categories : Pavillion, Standard, Comfort, Superior and Deluxe.

The regular package includes the comfort room category, which we are happy to upgrade to a deluxe category or downgrade to a Standard level.  There are 19 rooms, of which there are 16 in the Chateau and 3 in the Pavilion.  Each room features a bath or shower, free wi-fi internet access, a Flatscreen TV, a mini-bar and reversible air conditioning system.

Meals
All meals are included from dinner on arrival night and breakfast and lunch on departure day.  The regular package includes standard evening meals with tqo of the meals being of the “gourmet” category with 5 courses.  Meals are served in the hunter’s dining room, the more intimate Directoire Salon, or outside, on the inviting terrace.

A Gourmet restaurant with with roots deep in the Bourbonaise tradition offers local cuisine with produce from the chateaus own vegetable gardens, neighbouring farms, or local markets.  There is also an excellent wine cellar and a wine menu (drinks not included)

The rates are an indication and based on a comfort room.  Rooms can be upgraded or downgraded.

Rates include accommodation in a comfort room, including all meals, 2 gourmet dinners and 4 riding days.

Low season – Cost: €1299.00 euros per person twin/double share. (1 March – 30 April, 1 October – 31 December)

Middle season – Cost: €1329.00 euros per person twin/double share. (1 May – 30 June, 1 September – 30 September 2020)

High Season – Cost: €1369.00 euros per person twin/Double share. (1 July – 31 August 2020)
