Experience the variety of the Italian landscape and culture on horseback. The equestrian centre is set in the spectacular Chianti region, with its breaktaking landscapes forming an ideal backdrop for trail riding, dressage and horse riding lessons. Il Parentaio offer a high standard of riding tuition, especially Classical Dressage, and hacking in the idyllic surrounding countryside.

Located in the centre of Tuscany, just half an hour by car from Florence and Siena, Il Parentaio is a good base for touring the area without changing accommodation. The Chianti region has stunning landscapes, Tuscan hills, medieval castles and churches. These are just some of the sights you can see from the windows of your guest room and while exploring on horseback.

The hospitality of the farmers where rides stop for wine tasting or lunch is very unique. Italy is a wonderfully relaxing riding destination. Trail rides wind through terraced vineyards, olive groves, rolling green hills and cypress avenues.

Ride for a few hours per day, then relax by the pool, admiring the panoramic views of the surrounding hills and fields.

Riding Level

Horse riding holidays at Il Parentaio are suitable for the absolute beginner to the advanced rider. The lessons are semi-private or private, with a maximum of three riders. Dressage lessons, beginner riding lessons and trail riding are all available at Il Parentaio.

The riding style is English. Il Parentaio has over 30 horses, including Lusitano, Anglo-Arab, Sella Italiano, Holsteiner, Arabian, Kwpn, Maremmano, Merens and pony breeds. You will be taught and guided by FISE and BHS (British Horse Society) approved instructors during your stay.

Your Dressage lessons are the culmination of many years study with Pedro Batista De Almeida, the mentor of master rider Nuno Oliveira. Under his guidance, Il Parentaio has had the opportunity to work with over 100 stallions at the Portuguese State Horse Centre. More recently, the centre has also participated in a number of international apprenticeships with traditional riders and deeply inspired by the lessons of Charles de Kunffy and Arthur Kottas.


Program A includes lessons for beginner and low intermediate riders. This riding program is ideal for new riders looking for some general riding tuition, as part of a unique Italian riding experience. Minimum 7 nights stay. Shorter stays are only possible in the low season and subject to availability.

Program B includes dressage lessons and hacking out for intermediate to experienced riders. This riding program combines dressage and half day hacks, as part of a unique Italian riding experience. Minimum 7 nights stay. Shorter stays are only possible in the low season and subject to availability.

The house is a charming traditional Tuscan country home with terracotta floors and arched ceilings. Rooms for the guests are located in the main house. The atmosphere is very special, and extremely warm and friendly. All of the bedrooms have private bathrooms. The house has a 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding area and was built in the late 18th Century on two levels, with an additional central turret. The farmhouse is entirely made of stone.

For those who want to enjoy the Tuscan sun, there is a lovely pool where you can relax on a sun lounge. There are also lots of local sightseeing opportunities close by with Florence and Siena just half an hour away by car or Colle di Val d’Elsa, San Gimignano, Certaldo, Monteriggioni and Castellina in Chianti are only 20 minutes away.

Prog. A – beginners – 10 beginner lessons – 1,265.00 euros in high season, 1,1195 in medium season and 1,090 euros in low season.

Prog. B – 7 dressage lessons and 2 riding out – 1,335 euros in high season, 1,265 in medium season, 1,160 in euros in low season.

Prog. D – 9 dressage lessons and 1 riding out or 10 lessons – 1,365 euros in high season, 1,295 euros in medium season and 1,190 euros in low season.

Il Parentaio is just half an hour from Florence and Siena in the scenic region of Tuscany Italy. The nearest airports are Firenze, Pisa, Bologna and Perugia. Transfers can be arranged from the airport. Alternatively, a taxi can be booked for you from Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station to Il Parentaio.
